Is Claude better than ChatGPT?
For coding and careful long-form writing, Claude is generally better. For an all-round tool with the widest features (agents, image generation, voice), ChatGPT is better. Neither wins outright — it depends on your work.
Claude (Anthropic's Opus 4.8, with Fable 5 for frontier agentic coding) is widely rated the best model for production code and long-form writing quality, and it holds long context especially well. Many engineering teams treat Claude Code as their default.
ChatGPT (OpenAI's GPT-5.5) is the more complete product: Agent Mode, Deep Research, built-in image generation, voice, and the largest ecosystem of apps and integrations. GPT-5.5 also cut hallucinations sharply versus earlier versions.
So the honest answer is task-dependent. If most of your work is code or writing, Claude will usually feel sharper. If you want one assistant that can do a bit of everything, ChatGPT is the safer default.
